The Venus Bulldogs and the Kaufman Lions will round out the year against one another at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday at. Venus is hoping to put an end to a 19-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Venus was beaten by Alvarado 52-23. Venus has struggled against Alvarado recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Kaufman waltzed into their matchup Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Wills Point by a score of 39-27. Given Kaufman's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 371st, while Wills Point is ranked 1120th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaufman found their leader in underclassman Kaylee Wrenn, who scored 14 points along with five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wrenn has scored at least 25% of Kaufman's points. Aubre Prox was another key contributor, scoring four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Venus' defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Kaufman, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Venus was taken down by Kaufman 65-30 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Venus was down 37-10.
