Two dominant in Jaylah Hughes and Taja Porcher are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hanahan Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the North Charleston Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hanahan is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Hanahan didn't have too much trouble with Beaufort at home as they won 42-27.
Hanahan's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashtyn Adams, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and four steals. Adams has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Raven Williams, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, North Charleston's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 51-30 loss at the hands of Philip Simmons. While losing is never fun, North Charleston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while Philip Simmons is ranked 126th).
The losing side was boosted by Porcher, who scored 19 points.
Hanahan is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for North Charleston, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
Everything came up roses for Hanahan against North Charleston when the teams last played two weeks ago as the team secured a 61-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hanahan since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
