The Harper Woods Pioneers will face off against the Avondale Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Harper Woods has now lost 12 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 12.
Renaissance hit Harper Woods with a five-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pioneers fell 9-6 to the Phoenix.
JaKari Jewitt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in both of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kwintyn Powers, who earned one run and three stolen bases.
Avondale not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 15-0). They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Harper Woods. With that victory, the Yellowjackets brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Gibson Arthur, who went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Avondale is 3-1 when Arthur posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Tacheny, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Avondale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April.
The win made it two in a row for Avondale and bumps their season record up to 7-14. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Harper Woods, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Harper Woods has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Avondale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Harper Woods suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to Avondale in their previous meeting on Thursday. Can the Pioneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
