After a string of three wins, The Newton County Cougars''s good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They received a tough blow as they fell 24-7 to West Lauderdale. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Newton County in their matchups with West Lauderdale: they've now lost seven in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Lauderdale to victory, but perhaps none more so than K.p Peoples, who rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 28 yards and a touchdown. West Lauderdale also got a significant boost from Caleb Collins, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 112 yards.
Newton County now has a losing record at 4-5. As for West Lauderdale, their victory was their 12th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-1.
Newton County will face off against Prentiss Christian at TBD on Friday. Prentiss Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Newton County in Mississippi (Prentiss Christian is ranked 14th, while Newton County is ranked 102nd). As for West Lauderdale, they will be playing at home against South Pontotoc at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
