Basketball Recap: Crystal City Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Crystal City won the last time they faced Lytle, and Alyson Mata did her part to make sure it happened again. The Crystal City Javelinas were the clear victor by a 55-29 margin over the Lytle Pirates on Tuesday thanks in part to Mata, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. She has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

Jazmine Villarreal was another key player, going 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024.

Defeat or not, Lytle got some senior leadership from Arianna Garcia and Lunna Reyes. Garcia dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Reyes almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 21 boards. That was a full 48.3% of Lytle's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Zabella Garza also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Crystal City has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Lytle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-18.

Crystal City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-37 victory against Hondo on the 31st. As for Lytle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-34 loss against Natalia on the 31st.
