The Branford Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Guilford Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Guilford took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Branford, who comes in off a win.
Branford was handed a 40-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against the Governors on Tuesday. Branford sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-47 win over the Governors. The win was just what Branford needed coming off of a 59-19 loss in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Guilford came up short against the Lawmen on Tuesday and fell 54-46.
Despite the loss, Guilford had strong showings from Keira Reynolds, who scored 18 points along with three steals, and Alexa Kukta, who scored 14 points along with two steals. That was a full 39.1% of Guilford's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emme Votto, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Guilford were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Branford has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Guilford, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Branford beat the Grizzlies 52-44 in their previous meeting back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Reynolds, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Branford still be able to contain Reynolds? There's only one way to find out.
