The Nelson County Cardinals are taking a road trip to challenge the Oldham County Colonels at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nelson County will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Oldham County's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Nelson County hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Cardinals never let Green County get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Friday. Considering the Cardinals have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Aubrey Robbins was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nora Kate Simpson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexous Ramey, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Oldham County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over Central Hardin. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Colonels.
Like Nelson County, Oldham County also got a great game from a two-way player: Jozie Lashley. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Lashley was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Kailyn Claybern looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Bekah Townsend, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sydney Wirth, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Oldham County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests.
Nelson County's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oldham County, their record is now 20-3.
Both Nelson County and Oldham County just can't seem to miss. The Cardinals have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Oldham County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Nelson County might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Oldham County in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
