The Thompson Valley Eagles will square off against the Aurora Central Trojans at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Thompson Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.
Thompson Valley is headed into Saturday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They received a blow on Friday as they fell 67-52 to Roosevelt.
Despite their defeat, Thompson Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Penny Gilbert, who posted 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Ramberg, who earned ten points.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central entered their tilt with Skyview on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 36-32 W against the Wolverines.
Thompson Valley better keep an eye on Jamaea Johnson-Gonzalez. She was instrumental in Aurora Central's win, dropping a double-double with ten points and 19 boards. Johnson-Gonzalez has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Tay Phillips was another key player, putting up nine points and five steals.
Aurora Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.
Aurora Central's victory bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Thompson Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 18-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Thompson Valley has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Aurora Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 31.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
