The Gulf Coast Sharks couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were the victim of a rough 59-33 defeat at the hands of Evangelical Christian on Monday. Gulf Coast lost against Evangelical Christian in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 49-39 score last time.
Gulf Coast's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kali Cleary, who scored 6 points along with 6 rebounds. Alex Mcdonough was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Among those leading the charge was Maddie O'berski, who scored 13 points along with 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Aileen Warchol, who scored 7 points along with 9 rebounds.
Gulf Coast's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Evangelical Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gulf Coast won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lely at 7:00 p.m. on November 21st. As for Evangelical Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Ridge at 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
