Two dominant in Jacee Youngblood and Brooklyn Compean are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Oakwood Panthers are on the road again on Tuesday and play against the Bynum Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Oakwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
Oakwood has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 29 points or more this season. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 58-29 victory over Cumberland Academy.
Oakwood relied on the efforts of Rai'Miaya Winston, who scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals, and Youngblood, who scored 29 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Youngblood has scored at least 25% of Oakwood's points. Skiler Luna was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Meanwhile, Bynum was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 39-34 to Garner. Bynum has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, Bynum saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Compean, who scored 7 points along with 5 steals and 3 blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Compean is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucero Perales, who scored 12 points along with 3 steals.
Oakwood's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Bynum, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Oakwood have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Bynum, though, as they've only made 0% of theirs this season. Given Oakwood's sizeable advantage in that area, Bynum will need to find a way to close that gap.
