It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Edison Vikings had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Gregori at home to the tune of 48-6. Considering Edison has won nine contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kiaza Calhoun went supernova for Edison, rushing for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Calhoun's longest rush was for an incredible 87 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Harrison, who gained 116 total yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Gregori still got an impressive performance from Michael Marsden, who rushed for 83 yards, and also picked up 53 receiving yards.
The victory was the eighth in a row for Edison, bringing their record for this year to 9-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.9 points per game. As for Gregori, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Edison will head out on the road to face off against Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Edison likes a good challenge. Gregori does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
