The Sickles Gryphons will face off against the Wharton Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sickles 4, Wharton 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Sickles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They never let East Lake get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. Considering the Gryphons have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Ben Durda looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jordan Yost was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Nazar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Wharton hadn't done well against Plant recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Daniel Duno looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Anello, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Justis Meadows was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Wharton's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Sickles, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season.
