The West Springfield Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Alexandria City Titans at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. West Springfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 275th, while Alexandria City is ranked 25th).
West Springfield had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Robinson with a 50-45 win on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Alexandria City waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They managed a 53-49 victory over South County.
Alexandria City can attribute much of their success to Darius Bivins, who scored 16 points along with four steals, and Kye Robinson, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Bivins hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. Christian "CJ" Washington was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
West Springfield's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15. As for Alexandria City, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road.
West Springfield lost to Alexandria City on the road by a decisive 63-48 margin in their previous matchup back in January. Can West Springfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
