Basketball Recap: Pace Academy Comes Up Short

Pace Academy lost against Midtown back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Pace Academy Knights took a 75-58 bruising from the Midtown Knights. While losing is never fun, Pace Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Midtown is ranked 47th).

When it comes to explaining why Pace Academy lost, don't look at Lawson Monroe. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Monroe a new career-high in assists (four). Kate Grice was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Pace Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

It was another big night for Hailey Wortmann, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds for Midtown. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wortmann has scored at least a third of Midtown's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Bockman, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and five assists.

Pace Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Midtown, they pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Pace Academy will venture away from home to challenge Jackson at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jackson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season. As for Midtown, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-56 win against St. Anne-Pacelli on the 1st.
