It was a good run, but The Kings Mountain Mountaineers unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 39-14 loss at the hands of Crest. Kings Mountain was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Crest apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Although Kings Mountain took the loss, they still got scores from Teddy Jeffries and Josiah Hill.
Crest got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ny?tavious Huskey out in front who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 48 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Aiden Carson, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Kings Mountain to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Crest's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Kings Mountain's QB won't forget Derek Mitchell anytime soon given Mitchell sacked him five times.
Kings Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 9-1. As for Crest, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 10-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kings Mountain will take on Smoky Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Smoky Mountain will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last. As for Crest, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Parkwood at 7:30 p.m. Parkwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Crest is ranked seventh).
