The Johnson Atomsmashers posted their closest win yet this season on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Long County 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Johnson was led to victory by Favion Kirkwood and Joshua Quarterman. Kirkwood scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while Quarterman scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kirkwood has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kadin Davis, who scored eight points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Johnson and bumps their season record up to 12-8. As for Long County, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnson will take on Calvary Day at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Day is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home. As for Long County, they will head out on the road to take on Savannah Country Day at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Savannah Country Day has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
