Wesleyan has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Stephens County Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, Wesleyan rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on Ringgold with a sharp 35-14 victory. With Wesleyan ahead 28-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
It was another big night for Ben Brown, who threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Brown has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Wesleyan also got help from Jamie Tremble who showed off his sure hands for 144 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Stephens County strolled past Carver with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 31-13. Given Stephens County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Carver is ranked 174th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Javin Gordon was a one-man wrecking crew for Stephens County as he rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns. Gordon was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards.
Stephens County's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Solomon Dupree and Aidan Butts who racked up six sacks between them.
Wesleyan pushed their record up to 8-3 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.6 points per game. As for Stephens County, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Wesleyan was dealt a bruising 51-14 defeat at the hands of Stephens County in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Wesleyan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
