Baseball Recap: Omaha Northwest Drops Highest Score of Season Against Benson

Omaha Northwest had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 4-15 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Benson Bunnies 16-10. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jj Schirmer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Omaha Northwest got a massive performance out of Justyse Masters, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Masters a new career-high. DeVon Derry was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.

Omaha Northwest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

As for Benson, their defeat was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-17. Even if they couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

On Benson's side, Muhammed Mukhlis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Amrion Pouncil, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Omaha Northwest will welcome Adams Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Benson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Buena Vista at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bunnies are facing the Bison at the right time seeing as the Bison are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
