Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Lake Central

Lake Central extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping their season record up to 22-3 in the process. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Hanover Central Wildcats. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Indians also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Maddie Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tegan Tripp, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was MaKayla Van Vossen, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

As for Hanover Central, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-8. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

On Hanover Central's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Jillian Deyoung gave up only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Hanover Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Oostman, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Central will venture away from home to take on Crown Point at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hanover Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Kouts at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs & Fillies have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
