Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lathrop walked away with it. They won by a set and slipped past the Sierra Timberwolves 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
The victory didn't come easy: Sierra scored at least 13 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13.
Gabriel Faalii paced Lathrop's offense, picking up 21 kills. Faalii got some help from Jorge Reyes and his 37 assists. Faalii was also a major player on defense: he and he shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each.
Despite the loss, Sierra saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Manolo Asuncion had 38 digs. Asuncion is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 13 or more in each of the last five games he's played.
Lathrop's win bumped their record up to 25-8. As for Sierra, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-13.
Lathrop wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-2 loss against River Valley on the 2nd. Sierra does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
