Sebastian River has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Merritt Island Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Sebastian River focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
Last Friday, Sebastian River beat Treasure Coast 27-20.
Samiya Adams was her usual excellent self, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Daphne Gibson, who scored two points along with six rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Merritt Island scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They really took it to Astronaut for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-31 victory on the road. The win was some much needed relief for Merritt Island as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Merritt Island's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaliah Jones, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Ada Daniels was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Sebastian River is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Merritt Island's record is now 2-12.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's game: Sebastian River have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39.2% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Merritt Island, though, as they've only made 19.9% of their threes per game this season. Given Sebastian River's sizeable advantage in that area, Merritt Island will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Sebastian River against Merritt Island in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 51-16 win. With Sebastian River ahead 39-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
