Nottoway is 1-9 against Randolph-Henry since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Statesmen at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Nottoway's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Prince Edward County as they made off with a 23-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, Randolph-Henry had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over Prince Edward County on Monday. The Statesmen not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 31-1).
Kendall Snead and McKayla Lockett made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Snead pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Lockett kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. At bat, Snead went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Lockett went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Lockett a new career-high.
In other batting news, Glenna Vereen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. She also snagged a stolen base, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Townsend, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Randolph-Henry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Nottoway has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Randolph-Henry, their record now sits at 5-11.
Nottoway came out on top in a nail-biter against Randolph-Henry in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
