The Templeton Eagles will square off against the Atascadero Greyhounds at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Templeton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Templeton will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Paso Robles, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles put the hurt on the Bearcats with a sharp 17-6 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the game before.
Tegan Jay tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Those hits were her first of the season.
On the hitting side, Templeton got a massive performance out of Jessie Branch, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Branch has posted since back in May of 2024. Whitney Moore was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Templeton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Atascadero played in-conference for the first time on Tuesday and got just the result they were looking for. They came out on top against Orcutt Academy by a score of 7-4.
Devyn Dutra was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Bedell, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Templeton now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Atascadero, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.
Atascadero's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Templeton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Atascadero, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Templeton's sizable advantage in that area, the Greyhounds will need to find a way to close that gap.
Templeton took their victory against Atascadero in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 18-2 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Greyhounds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
