Navajo Prep is 10-0 against Tohatchi since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Navajo Prep Eagles will look to defend their home court against the Tohatchi Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Navajo Prep posted their biggest victory since December 8, 2023 back in December of 2023. They ended the year with a bang, routing Rio Rancho 72-52. Winning is a bit easier when you drain nine more threes than your opponent, as Navajo Prep did.
Jude Thomas was his usual excellent self, scoring 32 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Xavier Nez was another key contributor, going 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists.
Meanwhile, Tohatchi waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They blew past Cuba 77-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Tohatchi's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Dawes, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Dawes pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kyle Yazzie, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Navajo Prep's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Tohatchi, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Navajo Prep strolled past Tohatchi when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 67-53. Does Navajo Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tohatchi turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
