Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask James Monroe). They claimed a resounding 74-38 win over the Mount Hope Christian Academy Warriors. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Warriors are ranked 62nd), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead James Monroe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryce Gardin, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Miller, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 12 points.

James Monroe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, Mount Hope Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore MALACHI FLOHR posted 12 points and five rebounds.

James Monroe's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Mount Hope Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

James Monroe will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Narrows at 6:30 p.m. on January 13th. As for Mount Hope Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-28 victory against Paden City on the 31st.
