Fruita Monument is a perfect 10-0 against Durango since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Demons at 3:00 p.m. Fruita Monument will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Fruita Monument can't be too worried about heading out to take on Durango: they just beat Palisade at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Wildcats came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 7-4 on Friday.
Josh Weaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Fruita Monument let Blake Elsberry and Cooper Skalla run wild. Elsberry went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs, while Skalla went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most runs Elsberry has posted since back in March. Ryan Madsen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Fruita Monument lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Durango's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They lost 16-10 to Grand Junction Central.
Coen Anderson was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ollie Peterson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Durango's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-5. As for Fruita Monument, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
Durango's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fruita Monument has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Durango, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Fruita Monument's sizable advantage in that area, the Demons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Fruita Monument got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Durango by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
