Skyview is 8-2 against Columbia since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Skyview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Skyview took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Nampa with a sharp 13-2 win. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Jacoby Navarro looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Elijah Strong was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Mason Krahn also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Skyview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Columbia duked it out with Caldwell on Monday. The Wildcats blew past the Cougars 9-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Columbia got a massive performance out of James Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Finley Stern, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Skyview pushed their record up to 12-5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Columbia, their record is now 7-14.
Everything went Skyview's way against Columbia when the teams last played on April 1st, as Skyview made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
