After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bayfront Charter, the Mountain Empire Redhawks were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They came out on top against San Diego Academy by a score of 43-33. This was payback for Mountain Empire, who suffered a 68-60 loss the last time these two teams met.
Andrew Sepulveda continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Corey Vann, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Despite the defeat, San Diego Academy saw an underclassman step up: Josue Flores scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Flores has scored all season. Jason Love was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Mountain Empire has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for San Diego Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Empire will take on Ocean View Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for San Diego Academy, they will be playing at home against Monarch at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monarch will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
