1. SEFFNER ARMWOOD (10-0) – With the Hawks’ season ending 48-3 thrashing of Tampa Middleton, Armwood finished its second straight 10-0 campaign. During the last seven regular seasons, Armwood is 65-5. The Hawks currently are on a 25-game regular season winning streak.

2. TAMPA PLANT (8-1) – The Panthers are coming off a convincing 30-7 district-title clinching win against Tampa Jefferson. With quarterback Aaron Murray sidelined (broken leg) and coach Robert Weiner ejected for drawing multiple penalties, the Panthers still cruised to a 23-point win against their district rival.

3. TAMPA CHAMBERLAIN (9-1) – Chamberlain bounced back nicely from its loss to Plant, dismantling Tampa King 39-0. The Chiefs’ dominating performance included a 12-minute, game-opening drive that last the entire first quarter.

4. TAMPA BAY TECH (8-1) – Tech’s turnaround is officially complete. Tech is headed to the postseason for the first time since 2001 after a huge 26-20 win against 4A-11 district foe Tampa Hillsborough. The Titans were 0-20 in 2005 and 2006. Since then, coach C.C. Culpepper has guided the Titans to 14 wins in 19 games.

5. LARGO (8-1) – Any doubts about Largo’s Pinellas County dominance since their loss to St. Petersburg Lakewood in mid October? The Packers have won their last three games by a combined score of 119-22 and secured a home playoff game in the process. The Packers may have the firepower to reach a second-straight state semifinal game.

6. DADE CITY PASCO (8-1) – Pasco’s gutsiest performance this season came at the perfect time. The Pirates survived a wild 21-20 game against no. 9 New Port Richey Gulf to claim the Class 3A, District 8 championship. It is the second straight district crown for Pasco.

7. TAMPA WHARTON (8-2) – The Wildcats capped the regular season with eight straight wins, punctuated by last week’s district-clinching 42-35 shootout against Tampa Gaither. The Wildcats secured a home playoff game in the process.

8. TAMPA CATHOLIC (7-2) – The Crusaders are hitting on all cylinders. Fresh off a 56-0 win against Fort Myers Bishop Verot, Tampa Catholic has won seven games in a row and enjoyed shutout victories in three of its last five. One last to do before the playoffs? Defeat Tampa Jesuit, which owns an eight-game winning streak against Tampa Catholic.

9. NEW PORT RICHEY GULF (8-1) – Will the missed extra point with 56 seconds left haunt Gulf? Only time will tell. The 21-20 loss against district foe and no. 6 Pasco will send the Buccaneers on the road to start the playoffs. Still, in Adrian Golden (1,992 yards, 28 touchdowns), Gulf has the Bay area’s leading rusher and a chance to score at will.

10. LITHIA NEWSOME (8-2) – The Wolves are celebrating their breakout season and first-ever playoff appearance. Newsome’s 31-10 win against Valrico Bloomingdale punched their playoff ticket. This is a program that went from 5-5 last season with just a few returning players to a district champ.
