The Tyler Lions had already won 17 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.2 points), and they went ahead and made it 18 on Tuesday. They breezed by Marshall at home to the tune of 85-50. Tyler has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 contests by 20 points or more this season.
Marshall's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alyssa Helton, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds, and Calleigh Johnson who scored nine points along with eight assists and six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Johnson posted eight or more assists. Jakairi Blacknell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Tyler pushed their record up to 26-9 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points per game. As for Marshall, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-21.
Tyler will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Whitehouse will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Marshall, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
