The Stoneman Douglas Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Sickles Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stoneman Douglas will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.
Stoneman Douglas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Florida's top teams: Jesuit, who was ranked sixth at the time (Stoneman Douglas was ranked second). Stoneman Douglas came out on top against Jesuit by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday.
Gio Rojas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Breylynn Courtney looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Bennett Gary, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Nick Diaz, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sickles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Alonso 8-7.
Ben Durda looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Jordan Yost was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Cole Shearer was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Stoneman Douglas pushed their record up to 17-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Sickles, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
