Baseball Recap: Legion Collegiate Academy Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

Cherryville typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Legion Collegiate Academy proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Ironmen 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Charlie Bailey tossed a big game, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Griffin McKain was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Kayden Blackwelder also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Legion Collegiate Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.

Legion Collegiate Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cherryville, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 15-6 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Legion Collegiate Academy will square off against West Stanly at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Colts' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Lancers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cherryville, they will take on West Brunswick at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Ironmen surely won't give up without a fight.
