The Broadneck Bruins can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They blew past Southern 51-28. That's another feather in the cap for Broadneck, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Broadneck's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but London Best led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Wharton, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Southern's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Wooster, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Sidney Shaw who scored eight points along with three steals. Shaw has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.
Even though they lost, Southern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Broadneck only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
The victory made it two in a row for Broadneck and bumps their season record up to 16-2. As for Southern, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.
Broadneck will take on Crofton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Crofton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Broadneck is ranked 27th). As for Southern, they will challenge Kent Island at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Kent Island will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Southern surely won't give up without a fight.
