Encinal is 2-0 against Irvington since August of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Encinal Jets will be playing at home against the Irvington Vikings at 5:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Encinal: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Irvington has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Encinal fell victim to Hayward's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 38-0 loss at the hands of the Farmers. While losing is never fun, Encinal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 933rd, while Hayward is ranked 414th).
Meanwhile, Irvington made easy work of Mt. Eden on Saturday and carried off a 29-6 win. The result was nothing new for Irvington, who have now won three matches by 23 points or more so far this season.
Matthew Forbes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 140 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Jacob Santos was another key contributor, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Irvington's victory bumped their season record to 4-3 while Encinal's loss dropped theirs to 1-6.
Everything came up roses for Encinal against Irvington in their previous matchup back in August of 2016 as the team secured a 74-0 win. Will Encinal repeat their success, or does Irvington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
