The Oak Hill Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Monmouth Academy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Oak Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Oak Hill is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Mountain Valley on Thursday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. The matchup marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Izzy Whitaker put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Whitaker wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carlee Austin, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Monmouth Academy strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Spruce Mountain get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Like Oak Hill, Monmouth Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Shannah Parsons. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave Parsons a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.
In other batting news, Rileigh Chase was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Lillian Palleschi, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Monmouth Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spruce Mountain only posted a batting average of .192.
Monmouth Academy's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Oak Hill, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Oak Hill might still be hurting after the 13-6 loss they got from Monmouth Academy in their previous matchup back in May. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
