Baseball Game Preview: Tooele Buffaloes vs. Hillcrest Huskies

For the second straight game, Tooele will face off against Hillcrest. The Buffaloes will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Huskies at 3:30 p.m. Tooele is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Tooele turned things around against Hillcrest on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Huskies. The Buffaloes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Carson Freeman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Higgins, who fired off two home runs, nine RBI, and two doubles while going 5-for-6. Tooele is 2-1 when Higgins posts three or more RBI, but 2-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Barnard, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Higgins wasn't the only one making solid contact: Tooele kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests.

Tooele's win bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Hillcrest, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Hillcrest's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tooele has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Hillcrest, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Tooele's sizable advantage in that area, the Huskies will need to find a way to close that gap.
