Even though Waverly/South Shore has not done well against Northwestern Area recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Waverly/South Shore put the hurt on Northwestern Area with a sharp 67-47 victory. Waverly/South Shore's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Elkton/Lake Benton was the victim of a tough 54-34 defeat at the hands of Baltic last Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Elkton/Lake Benton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Baltic is ranked 31st).
Waverly/South Shore pushed their record up to 4-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Elkton/Lake Benton, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Waverly/South Shore came up short against Elkton/Lake Benton in their previous meeting back in January of 2018, falling 47-39. Can Waverly/South Shore avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
