The Clay City Eels's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 59-42 bruising from Owen Valley. Clay City has not had much luck with Owen Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Clay City lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kailyn Kirkling, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Kirkling pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Megan Jackson, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Owen Valley can attribute much of their success to Hannah Bixler, who scored 24 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bixler has scored at least a third of Owen Valley's points. Kalyn Greene was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Clay City has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Owen Valley, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clay City will take on Bloomfield at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bloomfield is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Owen Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Edgewood at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Edgewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
