Softball Game Preview: St. Marys Blue Devils vs. Ritchie County Rebels

St. Marys is 9-1 against Ritchie County since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Blue Devils will welcome the Rebels at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, St. Marys made easy work of Williamstown and carried off a 13-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Cali Masters made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ella Bullman was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Brylee McGrady, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

St. Marys lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Ritchie County had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Knights, sneaking past 11-9.

St. Marys has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.1 runs over those games. As for Ritchie County, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.
