North Davidson (Lexington, N.C.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 17 points, drop to 10 before the final whistle blew on a 34-24 victory over
Davie (Mocksville, N.C.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Chase Mitchell in the first quarter, the Knights led 27-17 at the half.
Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at 10 entering the fourth.
With the win North Davidson extended its winning streak to 11 games. ND defeated the Demons 55-0 last week.
Cade Carney made a difference for the War Eagles. The freshman quarterback ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown.
Mitchell played well for the Lexington school in the victory. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown.
Davie came in giving up 8.1 points per game this season. DHS struggled against the Knights, which came in averaging 41.7 points per game.
North Davidson got revenge for last year's 31-16 loss to the Mocksville school with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Davie, which notched a 28-7 victory over Reagan in its previous outing. The loss snapped the War Eagles' 2-game winning streak.
