The Edinburg North Cougars stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Edinburg with a sharp 59-36 win. Given Edinburg North's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Edinburg is ranked 548th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Joseph Cruz was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Raul Palacios, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Phoenix McBride, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Edinburg North has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. As for Edinburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-9.
Edinburg North will be playing in front of their home fans against Economedes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Nathaniel De La Garza and Cruz. As for Edinburg, they will head out on the road to challenge Pharr-San Juan-Alamo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9.
