The Stanwood Spartans will head out to challenge the Mountlake Terrace Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stanwood's pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so Mountlake Terrace's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Stanwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Everett on Monday as they made off with a 9-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by exactly eight runs.
Cullen Maloney looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Skyler McLain, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Corban Forslund was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Mountlake Terrace posted their closest win since March 25th on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Shorewood. The win was some much needed relief for the Hawks as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jeremy Perreault made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Perreault was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Layton Rongholt looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mountlake Terrace's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 3-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't).
Back at the plate, Charlie Schofield was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
The victory made it two in a row for Stanwood and bumps their season record up to 11-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Mountlake Terrace, their record now sits at 5-8.
Stanwood couldn't quite get it done against Mountlake Terrace when the teams last played back in March of 2018 as they fell 16-12. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
