After a string of three wins, the Golden Demons's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. Their rough 74-51 loss to Cherokee Trail might stick with them for a while. The matchup was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Golden struggled afterwards.
Leif Hansen and Shad Garnett certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Hansen scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks, while Garnett scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Garnett posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Luc Chevalier, who scored four points along with two steals.
Cherokee Trail's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nathan Baack, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 19 points and 0 assists. Another player making a difference was Jordan Mitchell, who scored 17 points.
Golden's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Cherokee Trail, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Golden will take on Evergreen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Evergreen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday. As for Cherokee Trail, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Eaglecrest at 7:00 p.m. Eaglecrest presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cherokee Trail in Colorado (Eaglecrest is ranked 11th, while Cherokee Trail is ranked 95th).
