Lexington Catholic has gone a perfect 3-0 against Pendleton County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Knights will head out to face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lexington Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Paul Laurence Dunbar on Wednesday. The Knights' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Abby Hammond made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Lauren Kelley and Sydney Ford did most of the damage at the plate: Kelley went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Ford went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Katie Prisinzano was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Lexington Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pendleton County). They blew past Campbell County 13-1 on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Lexington Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Pendleton County, they pushed their record up to 7-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Lexington Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Pendleton County in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
