The Millington Cardinals will face off against the Cass City Red Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Millington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Millington will face Cass City after dropping another heartbreaker against Ubly on Monday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Cardinals fell 7-3 to the Bearcats. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Bearcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Millington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lukas Henderson, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Matt Baker also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Cass City got the win against Bullock Creek on Monday by a conclusive 11-5. The Red Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Hayden Anthes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Anthes was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mason Brown was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Cass City hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.
Cass City's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Millington, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3-1.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Millington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Cass City struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Millington might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Cass City in their previous meeting back in June of 2023. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
