Baseball Recap: Southern Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against North River Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Academy). Everything went their way against the North River Christian Chargers on Friday as they made off with a 19-1 win. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Wyatt Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Southern Academy let BoBraeden Agee and Cooper Thorn run wild. Agee went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs, while Thorn got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Thorn a new career-high. Drew Rogers was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Southern Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Southern Academy pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for North River Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8-1.

Coming up, Southern Academy will challenge Clarke Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for North River Christian, they will square off against Hope Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
