With a playoff win on the line, Sandia rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They took down the Rio Rancho Rams 60-43. Winning may never get old, but the Matadors sure are getting used to it with their 15th in a row.
Sandia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaiyah Benally led the charge by going 6-for-8 en route to 16 points and six rebounds. What's more, Benally also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hope Giddings, who shot 63% from the field on her way to 15 points and seven boards.
Daysia Jack and Larissa Martinez certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Jack posted 18 points and five rebounds, while Martinez scored 12 points and four steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 16 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madilynn Martinez, who put up six points and eight boards.
Sandia's record now sits at 28-1. As for Rio Rancho, their loss dropped their record down to 21-11.
Sandia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-35 win against La Cueva on the 13th. Rio Rancho does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
