Rocky Hill and Newington are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Terriers will be playing at home against the Nor'easters at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Newington will be up against a hot Rocky Hill team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Terriers were the clear victors by a 19-7 margin over East Catholic on Friday.
Mia Ferreira was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Ferreira was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Samantha Kelly was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lucy Criscuolo was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
Rocky Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Newington was able to grind out a solid victory over New Britain on Friday, taking the game 12-9. The Nor'easters haven't had any issues with the Golden Hurricanes recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Newington got a massive performance out of Maiya Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Elliott, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2.
Newington's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Rocky Hill, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Newington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rocky Hill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 15.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Newington, though, as they've been averaging 15.3 hits. Given Rocky Hill's sizable advantage in that area, the Nor'easters will need to find a way to close that gap.
Rocky Hill came up short against Newington when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 11-6. Can the Terriers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
