After a string of 12 wins, the Bulloch Academy Gators's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 78-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westminster Schools of Augusta. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Bulloch Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ashantay Noble. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 34.7% of Bulloch Academy's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaley Cardell, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Bulloch Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westminster Schools of Augusta only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Westminster Schools of Augusta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but India Williams led the charge by scoring 33 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Williams is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Aimee Spurlock was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Bulloch Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-6. As for Westminster Schools of Augusta, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
Bulloch Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westminster Schools of Augusta, they will head out on the road to square off against Pinewood Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Westminster Schools of Augusta is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pinewood Christian in Georgia (Westminster Schools of Augusta is ranked 134th, while Pinewood Christian is ranked 309th).
