Hemlock hasn't had much luck against Shepherd recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Huskies will look to defend their home field against the Bluejays at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hemlock is returning to their home field after beating Michigan Lutheran Seminary on theirs, despite the fact Michigan Lutheran Seminary has dominated at home this season. The Huskies walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals on Monday.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Shepherd faced off against Farwell on Tuesday. The Bluejays blew past the Eagles 14-7. The Bluejays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.
MeKahna Seeley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Bloniarczyk, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Katie Robinson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Shepherd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farwell only posted a batting average of .276.
Shepherd pushed their record up to 18-11 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hemlock, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Hemlock came out on top in a nail-biter against Shepherd in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Bluejays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
